OUR POLICIES
Red Flag Laws
In the US the topic of gun control is highly controversial, and many people have many solutions in mind, red flag laws are one of these solutions. They allow the police and family members to petition a state court to have a person's firearms seized. As of April 2020, nineteen states and the district of Columbia have enacted red flag laws. Oklahoma being the only state that has enacted anti red flag laws. Four individuals who made threats of violence against schools were disarmed in the first three months when the law was passed in Mayland. Given all the positive effects, red flag laws should be enacted on a federal level.
Police Reform
Within the Unites States, Police have shot 934 people and fifty-six officers have been killed due to gunfire in the past year, yet many believe that police in the US believe that the policing system in the us should not be reformed despite this and many other reasons. It's necessary because public security institutions need to be created or adapted to meet changing security needs as well as the expectations of the communities they serve. What it aims to do is to transform the values, culture, policies, and practices of police organizations so that police can perform their duties with respect for democratic values, human rights, and the rule of law.
Universal Healthcare
The topic of universal healthcare in the US is a very controversial issue, and there is much speculation on what is to be done on this topic. As there was no unequivocal statement written in the US Constitution that states whether or not a right to healthcare is required, many debates have taken place in order to determine if universal healthcare should be written into law. Although many people argue that universal healthcare would not be effective and will increase taxes, the benefits of universal healthcare outweigh the disadvantages, and as such a universal healthcare system in the US should be implemented on a federal level because economic productivity would increase, the cost of healthcare would decrease, and a right to healthcare could save many lives.
Withdrawal From Afghanistan
The US has been in Afghanistan for over 20 years now. The primary cause of the war was the attack on 9/11 committed by Osama Bin-Laden. The current situation in Afghanistan now is bin Laden is dead, and many terror collections if Afghanistan have been stomped out. However, the threat of terror groups forming again, as well as the continued threat of the Taliban, kept the US in Afghanistan. The current US response to put an end to the Afghanistan War is to withdraw all troops. This was initially proposed by Obama but has not yet been implemented. The withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan is a good idea, but it must be done in a timely manner that prevents the Taliban or other terror groups from immediately taking control of Afghanistan after withdrawal
Immigration
The U.S limits the number of immigrants to 675,000 per year. The people who were turned away must wait for another year to get their visas approved, or they may not at all. A policy that focuses on getting visas to higher skilled workers, raises the max number of visas that are issued per year by one-third, and creates living space on the borders should be instated. This would allow more people into the country and would give people a place to live while they waited for their visas.
Hong Kong
In the year 2019, hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the streets of hong kong to protest a new law, banning certain activists and politicians from serving, which directly undermined the autonomy of hong kong, which they were supposed to have for 50 years after 1984. Since then, The PRC( People’s Republic of China) has cracked down on protesters, banning protests and arresting protesters. Protesters are fleeing the country, seeking help from other countries. The UK has already extended a helping hand to these people, and so has taiwan. The United states should follow suit and also extend a helping hand. All these people did was to exercise their right to protest, and they have not done anything wrong. We should allow them to enter the country.
Minimizing US Involvement
I personally believe would help is limiting the U.S’ involvement in other countries. This in the past has led to billions of trillions of tax dollars lost and thousands of soldiers and innocent dying. For example Afghanistan which lead to 5.8 trillion lost or The Hong Kong protest that caused hundreds of protesters to get injured and dozens killed. Both of these examples were worsened by U.S contact and would have been better for both parties If the US didn’t get involved. Overall the U.S needs to pay more attention to domestic and foreign issues. I am confident that you will become the president so I would be honored if you even considered these policies.
Reducing Healthcare
Healthcare pieces are far too high. Because of this I would like to decrease the prices of healthcare to a reasonable amount. Patients are paying thousands for a treatment that should only cost hundreds and according to Maura Hohman from today.com, “The most salient reason is that U.S. health care is based on a "for-profit insurance system," one of the only ones in the world, according to Carmen Balber, executive director of Consumer Watchdog, who's advocated for reform in the health-insurance market. In the U.S., most health insurance is administered by private companies and individuals must pay for it themselves, even if their employer subsidizes some of it. In contrast, ‘lots of other countries have some element of private something, but there is that baseline understanding that health care is a right, not a privilege,’ Balber said.”
Getting back into the Iran deal
Nuclear weapons are obviously no new feat in humanities strive to threaten and destroy one another, but they are constantly evolving and being researched so that governments can have the most effective types of bombs. There are systems in place however, that are meant to prevent nuclear warfare from breaking out and one of them is regulating bombs by countries who are currently participating in or heavily supporting a war. This includes Iran, currently part of a constantly destabilizing middle east. The Iran deal has prevented unstable governments from holding dangerous weapons but since the US has backed out, the integrity of the deal has been weakened and Iran now has less of a reason to participate in regulating their nuclear weapons.
Fight for 15
Minimum wage has been consistently too low for many Americans to live, most resorting to getting multiple jobs simply to survive. With a 15 dollar minimum wage we can effectively decrease poverty in the United States and give many more people incentive to work. We must fight in favor for the American People rather than the massive corporations that continue to underpay people for the work they do. And in regard to small businesses suffering, what must be understood is that more than 2/3s of small businesses already pay their employees above minimum wage, small business owners tend to understand the issues that many people living paycheck to paycheck face and therefore, are more willing to help. All in all, the economic benefits of a 15 dollar minimum wage greatly outweigh the reactions it may cause.
